This Blueberry Banana Smoothie is refreshing on hot summer mornings and also fantastic as a filling mid-afternoon snack! It’s creamy, nutritious, and super delicious!

Guys, I am totally feeling this super icy and refreshing summer fruit drink concoction.

I don’t know about you, but I am Lazy with a capital ‘L’ in the mornings. Not to mention, I cannot comprehend anything anyone tries to say to me until I’ve had my morning coffee. 🙄

But this summer, it’s been way too scorching hot to start of my day with a hot cup of Nespresso! So I got to thinking about what I could start my day off with instead that would still enable my brain to start functioning…

And enter this frosty, cooling, and super tasty Blueberry Banana Smoothie into my life!

Friends, this Blueberry Banana Smoothie is super cooling and wonderfully creamy. It has a whopping 14.3g of protein per serving, and will keep you full for a couple of hours until lunchtime. Not only is it extremely filling and nutritious, it takes just TWO STEPS to make! It’s 100% low-maintenance, which is another mega win if you’re kind of stupid in the mornings and tend to do things like put on your shirt backwards and spray yourself with air freshener instead of perfume. 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

Also, this smoothie isn’t just good for mornings. It’s terrific as a healthy mid-afternoon pick-me-up snack too! You’ll also feel much better and energized if you have this smoothie than if you were to have a bag of potato chips or a cup of Joe because blueberries are…

  • Loaded with antioxidants and do good stuff for your heart health.
  • Low in calorie and high in nutrients.
  • Packed with vitamin A, E, & C – these three do miracles for your skin unlike oily potato chips!
  • Linked with improving brain function and your memory (thanks to the antioxidants again.)
  • Bonus: Colorful little fun fruity blue balls of joy!

So grab your blender and let’s celebrate the summer fruit season with this easy, fruity, and icy healthy treat!

BLUEBERRY BANANA SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS

Fresh blueberries, banana slices, milk, and ground flaxseed in a blender jug.

To make this easy smoothie, you’ll need just a handful of ingredients:

  • Blueberries: You can use fresh or frozen blueberries. Both will work just fine.
  • Banana: Sliced into small pieces for easier blending.
  • Greek Yogurt: To make the smoothie super creamy and smooth.
  • Whole Milk: You can use low-fat if you prefer.
  • Peanut Butter: I like to add smooth peanut butter to the smoothie for some nut flavor and to make it creamier. My favorite brand is Skippy’s, which has added sugar. But you are welcome to use a natural peanut butter which doesn’t have added sugar.
  • Honey: For some natural sweetness. Feel free to use more or less as you prefer.
  • Ground Flaxseed: For some nutty flavor and to make this smoothie filling.
  • Almond or Vanilla Extract: Feel free to choose between almond or vanilla extract. I’ve made this smoothie with one or the other, as well as used a combination of both. I loved all versions, but I really like the nutty almond flavor that the almond extract gives the smoothie.
  • Ice: To make this drink icy and chilling, and 100% perfect for summer! You can use ice cubes or crushed ice.

VARIATIONS

There are plenty ways you can modify this basic Blueberry Banana Smoothie recipe. Some ideas and things that I’ve tried include….

  • Swap the fruit: Swap the banana for raspberries or strawberries (or use both!) to make a mixed berry smoothie! I’ve also used honeydew melon chunks instead of banana, and it makes the smoothie super chilly and refreshing!
  • Add nuts: You are welcome to add some nuts like macadamias, hazelnuts, or almonds to the smoothie if you like.
  • Make it vegan: Use vegan Greek yogurt and almond milk instead of whole milk to make a vegan smoothie.
  • Use a different nut butter: Feel free to use any type of nut butter you like or have on hand. I’ve made this with almond butter and it tastes just as delicious!

CAN I MAKE-AHEAD THIS BLUEBERRY BANANA SMOOTHIE?

Yes, you can! I’ve made this smoothie the night before a busy morning, stored it in mason jar mugs in the fridge, and it still tasted yummy the next day! The color became a bit lighter and it thickened up a bit. But just give it a good stir with a spoon (or shake if you’ve stored it in a mason jar mug) and it’ll still taste delightful!

IS THIS GLUTEN-FREE?

Yes, this smoothie is made with all gluten-free ingredients.
